Schmuckschatulle Würfel 1 (Cubicle Jewellery Box 1)

Leider habe ich lange nichts mehr posten können, aber ich war nichtsdestotrotz fleißig. Ich hoffe, ich kann es mir angewöhnen, regelmäßiger etwas online zu stellen

Die würfelförmige Schmuckschatulle aus gebeiztem Kiefernholz war ein erstes Experiment und Vortragsprojekt für die Schule. Aufgrund von Zeitmangel ist das Schatullengehäuse leider etwas dürftig ausgefallen, aber dafür bin ich mit den Kerbschnitzereien an sich ziemlich zufrieden.
Jede Seite weist eine Rosette von ca. 12cm auf einem Panel aus Lindenholz auf. Der Deckel hat ein Lock zum Abnehmen des Deckels. Das Innere der Schatuelle ist zum Schutz mit rotem Filz ausgeschlagen.

Unfortunately I didn’t have an opportunity to post anything, but I was quite industrious none the less. I hope, I am able to post on a more regular basis now

The cubic jewelry case is made of stained pinewood and was an experiment for a little lecture at school. The couldn’t execute the casing nicely enough  due to very limited time, although I am quiet pleased with the chip carvings.
Each side has a rosette with approximately 12cm in diameter  carved into a  basswood panel. The Lid has a hole in the center for opening. The inside is covered with red felt for protection.

Rosetten Paar I – Negativ [Rosette pair I - negative]

„]“]Wegen einer Verletzung etwas verspätet aber nichts desto trotz wie angekündigt hier der zweite Teile des Rosetten-Paars.
Bis auf das Zentrum ist die Rosette komplentär geschnitzt, d.h. alles was bei der ersten Rosette rausgeschnitzt wurde, habe ich bei diesem Exemplar stehen lassen und anders herum. Zusätzlich habe ich diese Rosette dunkel gebeizt und eine abgenutzte, alte, fast schon verschlissene Erscheinung verpasst im Gegensatz zum sauberen, hellen und neuwertigen Look der positiven Rosette.
Anfang war ich etwas irritiert wegen des ungewohnten Anblicks, aber inzwischen mag ich das rustikale Erscheinungsbild der negativen Rosette immer mehr.

Due to a little accident this posting got delayed. But anyways, as announced here is the second piece of my rosette pair.
Except fpor the center this rosette is carved as a complementary, meaning all the surface and shapes that got carved out in the first rosette I this time kept untouched and vice versa. Additionally I stained this rosette dark and added a used, worn out and old look in contrast to the smooth, light and newish appearance of the first rosette.
At first I was kind of irritated because of the unusal look of my creation, but finally I actually came to like it rather fondly.

Rosetten Paar I – Positiv [Rosette pair I - positive]

Dies ist die erste Rosette eines zusammen gehörenden Paars in einem klassischen Design. Die Rosetten sind jeweils komplementär zueinander – positive und negative Fläche. Die andere Rosette kommt demnächst.

yay -  hier endlich das erste Foto meiner Bemühungen
Diese Rosette ist mein erste richtiges Projekt jenseits meiner Übungensbretter. Wie man sieht kann man mit einfacher Technik und als Anfänger recht ansehnliche Ergebnisse erzielen!

Hallo Welt,

das ist mein erstes Blog und erst im Aufbau, also verzeiht mir das noch rudimentäre Layout

Das Blog stellt ein Album meiner kunsthandwerklichen Hobbys dar. Ich weis nicht genau warum, aber ich ein absolutes Faible für alte, fast vergessene und ausgestorbene Kunsthandwerksarten. Vor allem alles Ornamentale begeistert mich. Dies mag in unserer heutigen Zeit anachronistisch und archaisch anmuten, wo doch Einfachheit in Architektur, Design und Kunst(handwerk) bis zu einem Grad zelebriert wird, der leider all zu oft in schmerzhaft phantasielosen Simplizismus (ist das überhaupt ein Wort ?? ^^) ausartet und dann als große Abstraktion gefeiert wird. In unserer Konsum- und Wegwerfgesellschaft scheint es kaum Platz zu geben für filigrane, komplexe, aufwändige und ausgefeilte  Muster und Ornamente  (von der Textil-Branche mal abgesehen). Der Wert wird ignoriert; lieber kauft man etwas Einfaches weil es billiger ist…. aber nun genug des nostalgischen Reminiszierens

Ich arbeite zwar sehr gerne in der Design-Branche und liebe auch das Arbeiten am Computer mit CAD und Modelling-Software, aber das Werken mit den Händen hat eine ganz andere Qualität und verschafft eine ganz andere Befriedigung, die von der virtuellen Welt nur schlecht ersetzt werden kann.

Zur Zeit habe ich mich völlig ins Kerbschnitzen (auch nur Kerbschnitt genannt) vertieft. Dies wird auch der Schwerpunkt dieses Blogs darstellen. Allerdings werden auch mehr oder weniger oft Experimente meiner anderen Hobbys wie Papierfiligranie (auch Quilling genannt), Marmorieren, Drechseln, Speckstein Skulpturen, Makramee & Knoten, Kirigami, Korbflechterei auftauchen.

Für mich ist dies hier ein Spiegel und Rückblick um meinen Fortschritt zu messen. Für euch da draußen kann es hoffentlich Begeisterung auslösen die Techniken selbst auszuprobieren und Inspirationen für eigene Projekte liefern. Die ersten Bilder kommen hoffentlich demnächst…

So weit möglich werde ich das Blog zweisprachig halten (Deutsch und Englisch).

this is my first blog and it is still under construction, so please forgive me the rudimentary layout

This blog shall be a collection of my arts & crafts endeaveors. I am not exactly sure why, but I have a weak spot for ancient, almost forgotten and extinct arts & crafts. I am especially enthusiastic about all things ornamental. In our time this might be anachronistic and archaic; simplicity is celebrate in architecture, design and arts (&crafts) to a degree of excruciating voidness of fantasy and then sold as the non plus ultra of abstraction.  It seems in our present consumer and throwaway society delicate, sophisticated and complex patterns and ornaments have no longer a place left (with the the textile industry being the exception); they are no longer valued, instead they are given up for fast, cheap simplicity… but enough now of this nostalic reminiscencing

I like working in the design and engineering industry and I love to work at a computer using CAD and modeling software, but to create something with your very own hands has a totally different quality and sensation and gives me a completely different satisfaction which can hardly be replaced by the virtual world.

Currently I completely immersed myself into chip carving. This most likely will be the focus of this blog, although experiments of my other hobbies quilling, marbling, wood turning, soap stone sculpting (aka steatite), macramee &knotworks, kirigami, basket making will surface here more or less often.

For me this is a mirror and retrospect to measure my achievements and progress. For you I hope this might trigger enthusiasm to try the techniques yourself and provide you with inspirations for your own projects. The first images shall be up soon… hopefully ^^

As time allows I keep the blog bilingual (German and English)
